Please note there will be times where you need to look up additional information yourself (such as if you are given the setting, you will need to look up the relevant cost-effectiveness threshold).
In terms of the answers that require values – do not worry about where exactly you do the rounding, just report the values to the stated number of decimal places.
Note the word counts are a max to help guide you with how much to write for each question, you can write less.
Question 1: An intervention averts 80 DALYs a year for 10 years. Estimate the discounted total number of DALYs averted by this intervention – using a discount rate of 3%? (2 marks). Please provide your answer to 2 decimal places and show your working.

The total cost of the medical device provided by the national health service. It is only used for this intervention, and one is needed for each patient. | £4,000 |
The travel costs incurred over the year by the patient for accessing the treatment | £300 per patient |

The current standard of care cost to the NHS for managing the disease for these patients is £5000 (per patient).
Question 7: Based on the total economic cost and QALYs gained estimates provided, estimate the ICERs for the different treatment options (8 marks). Please provide your answers to 2 decimal places and show your working/the steps to the calculation.
Question 8: What treatment would you recommend based on the results – justify the decision? (2 marks) [50 words max]
Question 9: If the societal perspective had been recommended instead, how would this have affected the analysis and its interpretation (5 marks) [220 words max]
Question 10: If you were evaluating a mental health condition that recurred throughout the patient’s life, what model type would be most appropriate to use for the analysis and why? (2 marks) [100 words max]
Question 11: There is a new form of vector control which could significantly reduce the burden of dengue in Vietnam. An economic evaluation is needed to evaluate the value for money of this intervention and to inform in which specific settings within the country the intervention should be conducted. Justify why cost-utility analysis should be used over the other types of economic evaluations for these research questions (6 marks) [400 words max]
